For a long time Spain was the world pioneer in the cultural sphere, in areas such as art, architecture and literature, and is now a member of the European Union. Portuguese is the language spoken in many regions, including Brazil, which is recognized as an emerging national economy (BRICS)* and a probable world economic leader in the 21st century. Spanish-speaking regions and Portuguese-speaking regions have had in the past and continue today to have a close relationship. The regions where these two languages are spoken are known as Ibero-America*. By studying under the broad umbrella of this single term, you will see the world from a viewpoint different to that from Japanese or American culture and gain the ability to correspond accordingly.
